Methodology

Why Sizometry exists

Sizometry started from a simple problem.

We are enthusiasts who enjoy smartphones, tablets, wearables, and personal technology.

However, understanding the physical size of different devices before buying them is surprisingly difficult.

Most people cannot visit multiple stores just to compare products. Even when they do, devices from different manufacturers are rarely displayed side by side.

Official specifications provide numbers, but numbers alone do not communicate how large, small, wide, or comfortable a device actually feels.

That gap became the reason Sizometry was created.

Our goal is to make physical size easier to understand through consistent visual comparisons, objective measurements, and carefully researched editorial content.

What Sizometry is

Sizometry is an independent reference site for published device data and editorial coverage. It is not primarily a benchmarking site, camera review site, or purchase recommendation service. The site is free to use and does not require an account.

Our philosophy

Sizometry is not trying to tell users which product is best.

Different people prefer different sizes, weights, and form factors. A compact phone that suits one person may feel too small to another.

Our role is to provide consistent, transparent information so users can make their own decisions.

Site sections

  • Toolvisually compare up to three devices using Overlay, Side-by-side, Thickness, and Weight views.
  • Devicesunderstand one product through official images, physical dimensions, size classification, handling estimates, and similar-size devices.
  • Comparisonscompare exactly two devices and understand their physical and everyday-use differences.
  • Insightsnews, expected-product coverage, announcements, and published User Experience articles.
  • Methodologyeditorial standards, research practices, measurement rules, data sources, limitations, and contact information.

Expected products

Products that have not been officially announced are clearly marked as Expected.

Specifications, dimensions, colors, release timing, and hardware may all change before an official announcement.

Expected articles are reviewed and updated after official launches.

Official image policy

Whenever possible, Sizometry uses official manufacturer imagery.

When official product images are unavailable, reference imagery or estimated visualizations may be used.

Those alternatives are always labeled clearly so they are not mistaken for official renders.

Measurement rules

Dimensions are shown in millimeters. Weight is shown in grams.

Dimensions are based on manufacturer specifications whenever available.

Overlay and side-by-side views use a consistent internal scale so relative proportions remain accurate across the site.

Width, height, thickness, and weight refer to the physical device body. Regional variants may differ slightly.

Accessories, cases, keyboards, stands, and covers are excluded unless explicitly stated.

User Experience policy

User Experience articles summarize long-term ownership impressions gathered over time. They are editorial articles, not laboratory tests or user-review averages.

They are intentionally separated from objective device specifications so readers can distinguish measured data from reported experience.

Published and completed User Experience articles use their own canonical URLs and may appear in search results. Placeholder, draft, or incomplete content is excluded from indexing and the sitemap.

User reports are summarized as recurring patterns rather than presented as universal facts. Individual experiences may vary by region, software version, usage pattern, accessories, network conditions, and device condition.

Corrections and updates

When manufacturers publish new official information, Sizometry updates relevant content as quickly as practical.

Historical articles may remain available to preserve editorial context.

Future direction

Over time, the project aims to expand into other personal technology where physical size matters, including wearables, earbuds, laptops, monitors, and similar devices.

Foldable devices

Foldable devices may have both folded and unfolded body dimensions. Sizometry does not silently mix folded and unfolded measurements.

The Tool allows switching between folded and unfolded states when supported. Browse and detail pages generally use the default catalog state for each device.

Closed or folded official product renders are preferred for thumbnails and device profiles when available.

Device images

Official manufacturer images are preferred. Front and back product renders are used when available. Front-only images are used when no suitable front-and-back render exists.

Images are delivered as transparent-background WebP assets for visual consistency. They are trimmed to content bounds and given a small transparent safety margin.

Unofficial renders, AI-generated images, retailer images, and fan PNG sources are not used. When no verified official image is available, Sizometry uses a dimension-based silhouette fallback.

Product images are visual references for identification. They are not licensed for unrestricted reuse. Display scale is determined by catalog measurements, not by the visible size of the photograph.

Apple device detail pages may show multiple official gallery views per color when Apple publishes distinct product renders (for example front, back, or angled views). Browse cards continue to use a single representative image per device.

Size classification

Sizometry derives size categories using deterministic rules based on physical measurements. These categories are Sizometry interpretations, not manufacturer marketing labels.

Phones may be classified as:

  • Compact
  • Regular
  • Large
  • Extra Large

Tablets may be classified as:

  • Mini tablet
  • Standard Tablet
  • Large Tablet
  • Extra Large Tablet

Display size may contribute when reliable screen data is available. Foldable size classification may be based on folded dimensions when that is the catalog default.

Handling estimates

Values such as pocketability, one-handed use, grip comfort, and weight feeling are estimated from physical dimensions and weight.

These are rule-based estimates. They are not user-review averages and are not laboratory tests. Foldable handling estimates may be based on folded dimensions when that is the active body size.

They are intended as practical guidance, not a guarantee of how a device will feel in every hand, pocket, or bag.

Data sources

Data is primarily sourced from:

  • official manufacturer product pages
  • official specification pages
  • official press and media resources
  • official regional product pages when global pages are unavailable

Representative manufacturers include Apple, Samsung, Google, Motorola, Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, OPPO, OnePlus, vivo, HONOR, Huawei, Amazfit, COROS, Suunto, Polar, and realme.

Third-party sources may be used only for unreleased or preview information when official information does not yet exist. Such entries are marked as estimated or rumored.

Missing or unverified values are displayed as Unavailable rather than inferred or fabricated.

Limitations

Specifications may vary by region, network version, storage configuration, or material option. Manufacturer pages may be updated or removed. Unreleased devices may use estimated dimensions.

Handling descriptions are derived estimates. Product images are visual references and are not guaranteed to represent exact color appearance on every display.

Hand size, case thickness, weight distribution, camera bumps, and usage habits also affect comfort. Mistakes may still occur despite verification.

Trademarks and affiliation

Product names, trademarks, and registered trademarks belong to their respective owners. Sizometry is an independent reference site and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the manufacturers shown.
